Family Letter for D75 Proposal at IS 125Q

February 27, 2026

Dear I.S. 125 Families:

I am writing to share that the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) is proposing to open and co-locate a new middle school site of new District 75 school P.S. Q438 (75Q438), to be called P438Q@Q125, serving students in grades 6-8 in building Q125 in the 2026-2027 school year. A co-location means that two or more schools are located in the same building and may share common spaces, such as auditoriums, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and libraries.

This proposal must be voted on and approved by the Panel for Educational Policy (PEP) prior to implementation. If approved, I.S. 125 Thomas J. McCann Woodside Intermediate School (24Q125), referred to as I.S. 125 will be co-located with P438Q@Q125 in Q125 in the 2026-2027 school year. P438Q@Q125 will serve District 75 students in grades 6-8 who have a classification of autism, intellectual disability, or multiple disabilities on their Individualized Education Programs

If this proposal is approved by the PEP, what does this mean for my child(ren)?

  • P438Q@Q125 will open in Q125 in the 2026-2027 school year, serving approximately 48-96 District 75 middle school students across eight special class sections. P.S. Q438 is a new District 75 school.
  • I.S. 125 and P438Q@Q125 will be co-located in Q125, meaning these schools will share common spaces, such as the auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasiums, and library.
  • The NYCDOE does not anticipate that the opening and co-location of P438Q@Q125 will impact current or future instructional or extracurricular programming, admissions, or enrollment at I.S. 125.

Where can I learn more about this proposal?

For further information about this proposal, please see the Educational Impact Statement, which is available in the main office of I.S. 125 and on the PEP website: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/about-us/leadership/panel-for-education-policy/2025-2026-pages/may-06-2026-school-utilization-proposals. We encourage you to visit this website for updates.

How can I provide feedback?

In advance of the PEP vote, a Joint Public Hearing for this proposal will be held via teleconference on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 6 p.m. All community members will have the opportunity to share feedback about this proposal at the Joint Public Hearing.

You may also share feedback about this proposal by emailing D24Proposals@schools.nyc.gov or calling 212-374-7621.

We anticipate that the PEP will vote on this proposal on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Francis Lewis High School, located at 58-20 Utopia Parkway, Queens, NY 11365.
